Galvanized Iron (GI) Scrap
Galvanized iron scrap is steel with a zinc coating. Coating, gauge and attachments affect how a buyer handles the lot.
Grades and trade descriptions
- Clean galvanized offcuts
- Sorted zinc-coated sheet or profile offcuts from fabrication.
- Mixed galvanized scrap
- Used coated material that may have paint, fasteners or other attachments. Agree on acceptable contamination and preparation.
- Prepared ferrous grades
- Some HMS 2 specifications allow galvanized steel if the material meets the remaining criteria. Confirm acceptance with the buyer.
Where it comes from
Roofing and cladding roll-formers, HVAC duct shops, and fencing and cable-tray fabricators can produce galvanized offcuts. Building strip-outs can yield used ductwork and coated panels.
