Light Melting Steel (LMS)
Light melting steel is lighter-gauge ferrous scrap that can be prepared for remelting, often as bundles or bales.
Grades and trade descriptions
- Loose light steel
- Thin sheet, light-gauge sections and similar offcuts. Buyers may ask for a particular size or density.
- Baled light steel
- Compacted light scrap. Buyers typically specify bale dimensions, density and permitted coatings or attachments.
Where it comes from
Sheet-metal shops and stamping lines generate offcuts. Appliance dismantling and building strip-outs can yield thin steel panels and light sections. Separate coated material when requested.
